Russia supporters could have put their nation's Euro 2016 participation into jeopardy on Wednesday after a flare was ignited in the stands when Denis Glushakov scored in their 2-1 defeat by Slovakia.
The Russian Football Union was handed a suspended disqualification by UEFA on Tuesday and a fine of £120,000 due to incidents that occurred in the 1-1 draw against England. UEFA said the charges related to crowd disturbances, use of fireworks and racist behaviour.
UEFA also warned that 'such a suspension will be lifted if incidents of a similar nature (crowd disturbances) happen inside the stadium at any of the remaining matches of the Russian team during the tournament'.
And the latest scenes from the Stade Pierre Mauroy on Lille could provide UEFA with a difficult decision to make regarding the status of Russia in the remainder of the tournament.
Slovakia beat Russia 2-1 thanks to first half goals from Vladimir Weiss and Marek Hamsik. Glushakov's header in the 80th minute gave Russia hope of an equaliser but it never arrived.
Any potential disqualification would also be considered particularly significant as Russia are hosts of the 2018 World Cup.
