Police Service Commission approves promotion 4,542 Police officers


The Police Service Commission, Monday approved the promotion of 4’542 senior Police officers to their next rank between May and June 2016.


The breakdown of the promotions are as follows; CP to AIG 7, DCP to CP 6, ACP to DCP 20, CSP to ACP 8, SP to CSP 107, DSP to SP 1,431, ASP to DSP 1,252 and INSP to ASP 1,711.

A statement signed Ikechukwu Ani, head of public relations said, “Out of this number, the Commission approved special promotion for 16 Officers based on exceptional performance and dedication to duty on the recommendation of the Inspector General of Police.

Also two Officers were promoted on act of gallantry while 188 others were placed on acting appointment on their next rank. These promotions and appointments have been communicated to the Inspector General of Police for implementation.

Among officers promoted are AIG in charge Force Animal Department, AIG Ughonmo, IG in charge Budget, AIG Iyaji, CP (Dr. Aisha Abubakar, DCP Jonathan Towuru, DCP Ben Okolo, DCP Sylvester Abiodun Alabi, DCP Amaechi Elumelu, DCP David Igbodo and ACP Abayomi Shogunle.

Chairman of the Commission, Sir Mike Mbama Okiro, (rtd IGP) urged the affected officers to reciprocate government gesture by re-dedicating themselves to the service of the nation.

He enjoined them to ensure that they are guided by the approved rules and regulations of the Force and that they operate with the fear of God noting that the Commission will continue to ensure that promotion of police men is regular to serve as a tonic for effective and efficient service.
