Ali Modu Sheriff
The embattled former National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party Senator Ali modu Sheriff has kicked against the primary election in Edo state which was organized under the auspices of his rival, Ahmed Makarfi, the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee according to the Vanguard.
The primaries were organised on Monday, 20th of June, 2015 after which, Osagie Ize-Iyamu emerged as the flag-bearer of the party.
In a letter addressed to the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission signed by the National Chairman and the National Secretary, Prof. Wale Oladipo. the Party through the letter urged INEC not to give legitimacy to what happened in Edo and said that the party is going to conduct a proper primary in the state.
Also in another statement, the party released a scheduled congress in Edo State to start from June 23rd-June 29th with the inauguration of Congress Committee scheduled for Thursday. Also in another statement, the National Chairman warned state Chairmen and officers of the party to desist meeting or having anything with the illegal Caretaker committee and warned that anybody dealing with them is on his own.
In another statement also, Sheriff also announced the appointment of some deputy national Officers as members of the National Working Committee in acting capacity. The party said that it is acting in pursuance to a resignation of five (5) members of NWC and in accordance with the provisions of sections 39(2), 42 (2), 43 (2), 44 (2) and 47 (6) of the Constitution of the party 2012 as amended.
