Three artisans have been reportedly killed after a two-storey building under construction at Ndiagu in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra has collapsed at about 8:00am on Wednesday.
An eye witness disclosed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that three other persons, who sustained severe injuries from the incident, were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
It was gathered that those that rushed to the scene of the incident and assisted in the rescue mission included the Commissioner of Police in the State, Hosea Karma and the Divisional Police Officer in Ogidi, Hassan Musa.
The state police boss, Karma, who described the death of the artisans as 'unfortunate and untimely,' urged the people in the area to take heart and prayed for the repose of the souls of the dead, adding that the corpses of the deceased had been taken to Iyi-Enu Hospital’s morgue.
Chuka Onubogu, the President-General of Ogidi community, attributed the collapse to substandard building materials, and appealed to contractors and those involved in building projects to ensure that genuine materials were used.
