Barcelona have confirmed that defender Thomas Vermaelen will join Serie A side Roma on loan for the 2016-17 season.
The Belgium international signed for the Catalan side in the summer of 2014, but the injury problems that plagued him towards the end of his Arsenal days followed him to Spain and he would only make 11 league appearances for Luis Enrique's side.
Vermaelen will hope this new opportunity in Italy can reignite his career.
