Sam Allardyce has been sacked as England manager just 67 days after replacing Roy Hodgson.

The Football Association confirmed Allardyce has left his position by mutual consent on Tuesday night, 67 days after taking up the job.

In a statement, the FA said: “Allardyce’s conduct, as reported today, was inappropriate of the England manager.

“He accepts he made a significant error of judgement and has apologised. However, due to the serious nature of his actions, The FA and Allardyce have mutually agreed to terminate his contract with immediate effect.”

Allardyce held crunch talks at Wembley with Football Association chiefs on Tuesday after footage emerged of the 61-year-old giving tips to get around FA transfer rules to undercover Daily Telegraph reporters who were posing as businessman from a Far East Firm.

The former Bolton boss was accompanied by adviser Mark Curtis for a meeting with FA chairman Greg Clarke and chief executive Martin Glenn.

Gareth Southgate is likely to be put in temporary charge for the upcoming World Cup qualifying games with Malta and Slovenia.

Allardyce’s only game in charge of the Three Lions was a 1-0 win against Slovakia in the 2018 World Cup qualifier.
