Govs depressed, beg Buhari to declare recession a national emergency

The 36 governors of the federation have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately declare the current economic recession in the country as a national emergency.
The governors, under the Nigeria Governors Forum,  NGF, made the call in a communique after their meeting in Abuja on Friday.

The three-point communique was read by the chairman of the forum and Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yarı.
According to the communique,  the governors also called on the Federal Government to urgently tackle the resurgence in polio and  Lassa fever, adding that it had resolved to support the federal government to continually reflate the economy out of recession.

The governors also said they would set up task forces in their respctive states on the eradication of polio in the country,  adding that they would also commit themselves to the payment of their states’ counterpart funding to meet their obligations in the eradication of polio.
Continuing, Yari said the forum also  discussed the nagging incident of Lassa fever in the country, adding that they have resolved to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Health to address the Lassa fever issue.
“So, we are going to engage the ministry of health to discuss and find lasting solution to Lassa fever,’’ he said.
