Up until now, 47 Bangladeshi pilgrims, who went to Saudi Arabia to perform the holy hajj this year, died due to old age illness complications between August 7 and September 15.
Of them, 36 pilgrims were male and 11 female, according to an announcement at the bulletin of Ministry of Religious Affairs’ hajj management department yesterday.
The bulletin says 33 hajjis died in Makkah, eight in Madinah, one each in Jeddah and Mina while 23 other pilgrims are currently hospitalised in Saudi Arabia.
“The Hajjis have died mainly due to old age complications. Besides, some others died due to heart and kidney failures,” AKM Masudur Rahman, consular at Bangladesh Hajj Mission in Jeddah, told The Daily Star over phone.
A total of 1,01,797 pilgrims performed the holy ritual this year’s Hajj held in September 11.
Of them, 95,614 have reached under 483 private hajj management and 5,183 under government management.
The return flights will begin from tomorrow (Sep 17) and continue to Oct 17.
