News Alert: Senate Confirm EFCC Boss Ibrahim Magu Suspended

The Senate will no longer begin the confirmation hearing on the nomination of Mr. Ibrahim Magu as the substantive chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) slated for today.

LEADERSHIP reports that the Senate had on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 announced through the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, that it will begin the screening of Magu four and the other member-nominees of the Commission on Thursday after about five months after their nomination by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Some forces within the Presidency sphere said to be against Magu’s emergence as the EFCC’s chairman and the Department of State Service (DSS) is also said to be a collaborator in the scheme to edge out the anti-corruption czar through a damning security report it has sent to the Senate against Magu.

The Senate’s Order Paper of today, Thursday, December 8, 2016, obtained by a reporter this morning did not reflect the much-anticipated screening exercised contrary to the earlier announcement.
