A suspected Boko Haram member has been arrested by members of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Marshall Guards, a private security firm floated by an area council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to DailyTrust, the suspect identified as Usman was arrested while preaching at the Utako Market at about 4:30pm on Tuesday.
A statement by the AMAC Marshal’s public relations officer, Kingsley Madaki said the suspect was arrested with “Qur’an and a chaplet on his neck while trying to lobby people in the market.”
The statement said the suspect who confessed to be a member of the Boko Haram sect was handed over to army officers from Gowon Barracks.
An officer who would not want to be named, confirmed the incident but said the suspect is being questioned to ascertain his true identity.
He quoted the AMAC Marshall General, Kasimu Isyaku Chicha as saying the guards are out to assist conventional security agencies in the council to tackle security situation in AMAC.
The statement called on residents to be careful and be on the watch saying AMAC will do everything to protect residents.
It commended the effort of the council chairman, Abdullahi Adamu Candido for creating the security outfit for the security of the council.
The Nigeria Army at the weekend invaded the last Boko Haram stronghold in Sambisa forest, leading to the fleeing of members of the group.
