The Senate has rejected plans by the Federal Government to close the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja and divert flights to the Kaduna airport for 6 weeks in order to execute repairs.
The lawmakers also summoned the Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, service chiefs and other stakeholders in the aviation industry, giving a 48-hour deadline.
Some senators who spoke during plenary said the decision of the FG to close the airport will cause more trouble for Nigerians traveling.
Deputy Senate President said many countries have repaired Airports without closure and many lives lost on the Kaduna road and advised that all other avenues be exploited to prevent the closure of the airport.
