Ibrahim Babangida, Nigeria’s ex president, on May 25, Monday, issued a message to “patriotic Nigerians”.
According to Thisday, the former military head of the country commented on the problem of this year’s fuel crisis. He dismissed speculations that the fuel scarcity was deliberately orchestrated.
IBB spoke in Minna, Niger state, as he and former head of state, Abdusalami Abubakar, paid a goodbye visit to Governor Babangida Aliyu.
Babangida was quoted as saying:
“I am concerned just as other Nigerians on this issues of fuel scarcity and power supply but what we need to do as patriotic Nigerians is to support the government to do all it can to ensure that these are problems of the past.”
Abubakar, on his part, urged Aliyu to share his governance experience with the incoming administration to ensure peace in the state, Daily Post adds.
Aliyu expressed optimist over the further development of the region:
“Many Nigerians were apprehensive before the general elections, but this is one of the most peaceful elections we ever had in the country. I am very happy for us because the people accepted the results without bickering.
“We believe our two elder brothers have the knowledge and vast experience and a lot to offer and do for the country. Many of us may not know that they did underground work to douse the tension because of their concern for the unity and development of the country. Their actions are always for the best of the country.”
In a recent development Babangida defended the Peoples Democratic Party that lost in the elections. He alleged that the party would fix its mistakes and return to power in 2019.
