Senate Presidency: Saraki Cautions Against Endorsement

Senator Bukola Saraki, has cautioned the leadership of the All Progressives Congress against flouting due process in selecting a candidate for the Senate presidency.

Senator Bukola Saraki is one of the two aspirants contesting for the office of the Senate President

Saraki, according to Punch, issued this warning on Monday, May 25, in an interview with journalists in Abuja.
The senator, who is one of the two aspirants contesting the office of the senate president, urged the leadership of the APC to follow due process and pick a senator, who is competence and able to deliver.
He flayed against choosing someone just for being in the position, noting that Nigeria would be able to solve its social and economic crisis with the right persons at the helms of affairs of both the executive and the legislature.
“If you are talking about leadership, whether in the Executive or the National Assembly, you must have people that have the grasp or understanding of what is required. It is not just being there for being in the position.”
He emphasised that in picking anyone for a leadership position, the party must first think of the value the person would bring to the people.
“If you are talking about leadership, whether in the Executive or the National Assembly, you must have people that have the grasp or understanding of what is required.”
Saraki, who also kicked against endorsing anyone for the post, said it was time to do things in a different way and allow the people to express their desires.
In the same vein, senate minority leader, Senator George Akume, has disagreed with the pioneer national chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande, and the party’s leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, over their declaration on zoning arrangement for the post of senate presidency.
Akume said the concept of zoning should be dropped, if the party is serious about picking the best man to occupy the position.
