At least seven people have been confirmed dead in a ghastly motor accident involving a truck and a transport bus belonging to Calculux Company.
This was confirmed by the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in a report made available to the News Agency of Nigeria.
It was gathered that the accident occurred at New-Netim community near Odukpani local government area of Cross River on July 29, 2015.
Addressing news men on the incident, Lawrence Ikechukwu, Cross River sector commander of the FRSC, said the bus with 14 passengers was heading to Port Harcourt from Calabar.
He said: “The 14-seater bus belonging to Calculux Company with registration number LSR-813xS (Lagos), was heading to Port Harcourt from Calabar and it was carrying 14 passengers including the driver.
“The bus driver was on the right hand side of the road and the truck driver was over taking dangerously and carelessly.
“The driver of the Calculux bus tried to avoid the truck and ran into the bush but the truck lost control and followed them into the bush; crushed the bus and seven people died.
“Seven other persons are currently receiving treatment at the Calabar General hospital and a few of them are under critical condition.
“From every indication, the driver of the truck is at fault because he was over-taking dangerously and he lost control.”
According to the sector commander, the driver of the truck ran away shortly after the accident.
“We are working with the police to arrest the driver of the truck; we will get him and he will face the law.
“We have the manifest of the bus with us and we are working hard to contact the loved ones of those that lost their lives,’’ he said (NAN)
