A lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun state, Dr. Deji Adejobi, was murdered on Tuesday, July 14, by suspected assassins, The Punch reports.
Adejobi, an Agricultural Lecturer in OAU, was shot by gunmen who invaded his residence close to the Tollgate area of Ile Ife at about 10pm.
It was gathered that the gunmen, shot into the air to scare away residents before firing their target.
Describing how her father was killed, his daughter, Oyin, said: “We finished our evening prayer at 10.05pm, my dad drove into the compound.
“Then I overheard an argument between the guard and some strange people.
“I looked out from the window and I saw that another black car had entered our compound.
“Our guard questioned the occupants but they hit him and ordered him to lie down.
“The men in the black car came out before my dad alighted from his car and one of them shot into the air. Two of them went to his car; the others came inside. “Grandma started begging those who came inside. Suddenly, we heard gunshots outside.
“The assailants left at 10:20 pm and took dad’s car away. I overheard dad begging them that they should not take him away. When they left, we thought they had taken him away and we started praying for his safety without knowing that he had been killed. When the police came, they saw his body in the flower bed.”

According to Abiodun Olanrewaju, the public relations officer of the OAU, the university community was shocked to hear the news.
He said: “We were shocked to hear that he was killed. We just pray God will give the family the fortitude to bear the loss. It is terrible.”
Reacting shortly after, the deceased’s younger brother, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who is the spokesman for the Ogun state police command, described his death as pathetic.
The spokesman for the Osun state police command, Folashade Odoro, said the command had begun investigation.
Adejobi’s death comes weeks after Professor Albert Ilemobade, former Vice-chancellor of the Federal University of Technology was abducted by unknown gunmen before his decomposed body was found in an isolated store in his house.
