LSG Denies Ladipo Market Closure

The Lagos state government has reacted to reports that some sections of the popular Ladipo MARKET had been demolished by officials purported to be from the Mushin Local Government.
According to the state government, the alleged reports are fictitious as business activities have continued to go on smoothly in the MARKET.
This was disclosed in a statement released by the executive secretary of the council, Hon. Jide Bello, who said business activities went on very well at the popular Ladipo MARKET yesterday and traders are presently at their stalls carrying out their business transactions.
Bello said that what the Mushin Local Government decided was to redevelop the MARKET which had become a fright due to the unpleasant activities of some of the traders and the degradation of the surrounding which did not fit into the mega CITY plans of the state.
He said the Local Government intends to undertake the development of the MARKET in phases and because of that, had not collected any form of rentage from the traders in the MARKET since the beginning of 2015.
Bello said: “The authorities of the Mushin Local Government convened several meetings with the leaders of the various associations in the market towards ensuring that the private developer commences the phased development but it was evident from the body language of the leaders that they were buying time and trying to frustrate the plan of the Local Council to redevelop the market”.
He however noted that there would be no going back on the decision of the council to redevelop the Ladipo market to meet the mega city status of Lagos.
According to Bello, the process was followed in due process. He advised all traders in the market to see Mushin as a HOME for all of them, urging them to operate within the ambit of the law.
Some sections of the popular spare parts market was reported to have been destroyed by armed men and officials suspected to be working for Mushin local government yesterday.
