After a five-week break, the Senate has said that they will visit the Internally Displaced Persons and the Nigerian military troops in the North East.
This was revealed by Bukola Saraki, the senate president on Tuesday while reading the welcome address at the senate.
He said that the citizens cannot condone the level of deaths and the security challenges caused by the insurgents.
“In the coming days, I will constitute a high powered Senate delegation to visit our troops on the battle line and some of our internally displaced persons in the North East.
“To have a firsthand appreciation of the challenges, the suffering and plight that has befallen our people in the area.
“Soon afterwards we shall, working together with the House of Representatives, develop concrete steps towards the rehabilitation and renewal of the battered local economy of the North East.
“Let me reiterate the readiness and willingness of the National Assembly to support and work with President Muhammadu Buhari to comprehensively rout Boko Haram,”he said.
In addition to support President Muhammadu Buhari in this fight against terrorism, he also urged the friend nations of Nigeria including the United States to assist.
Due to the poor nation’s revenue profile at the moment, he said the senate is determined to make sure the revenues of the country are returned noted with dismay that had taken a great hit with the economic realities on ground and some undue import waivers.
“Nigerians want to see the National Assembly tackle these obscenities in our revenue systems as it denies our people the right to good governance.
“We cannot afford to watch the mindboggling leakages in our oil receipt to go on.
“This Senate is in tandem with Mr. President on this and is determined to turn every stone and shift every rock to ensure that all revenues due to the country from oil are recovered.
In conclusion, he stressed that Nigeria is not the only oil producing country in the world, therefore, oil theft should not be condoned.
