Nigerian Armed Forces has answered to the recent audio released by Abubakar Shekau, the leader of the deadly Boko haram sect.
Recall that the last week President of Chad Idriss Deby said Shekau has been ousted as Boko Haram commander.
Shekau in the audio had defined as lies rumours that he had been decapitated as head of militant sect Boko Haram, saying he’s still alive and in charge.
However, Sani Kukasheka Usman, the military spokesperson, said it did not matter, at this phase, whether Shekau was dead or alive.
Usman said the army was concentrated on wiping out Boko Haram within three months to meet the deadline set by Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari.
Suspected members of the militant group have killed more than 600 people in Nigeria in a spate of bombings and shootings since Buhari was sworn-in as president on May 29.
Speculation about Shekau’s condition – and even his true identity – has been widespread in Nigeria for years.
The wanted Islamist leader’s whereabouts is unknown, but he has in the past made himself heard whenever he has been announced dead.
