The gale of reversals of the Babatunde Fashola government seem to be in full gear as Governor Akinwunmi Ambode today reversed the allocation of over 25 plots of land by Fashola to his alleged cronies in high-brow Lekki.
A report by The Cable revealed that the allocated lands were approved by the former military administrator of Lagos state, Brigadier Buba Marwa to be a site for the Lagos State Water Corporation (LSWC) in 1998. The certificate of occupancy of the land was subsequently signed by former governor Bola Tinubu, in 2006.
The report fingered the permanent secretary of the Lagos state ministry of lands under the Fashola administration, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, as the brain behind the diversion of the lands as he reportedly informed Fashola that the lands were “available”. The lands were then allegedly signed by Fashola three days before his tenure elapsed.
According to the report, the new allottees were issued the old certificates of occupancy, which had been replaced with electronic certificates by the Fashola’s government.
Most of plots were allegedly given to Fashola’s relatives, friends, aides and associates in the reported land allocation.
Ambode’s attention was reportedly drawn to the issue by officials of the LSWC as soon as he assumed office, as they wrote to him to complain that the original certificate of ownership was still valid.
Meanwhile, Ambode, on Wednesday , August 19, revoked the concession contract for the redevelopment of the Falomo shopping centre, Ikoyi.
