Buhari Sheds Lights On NNPC Appointments

The sources say that President Muhammadu Buhari appoints the new Group Managing Director in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
UPDATE: Sahara Reporters says that Kachikwu is expected to take over from from Joseph Darwa at the NNPC headquarters in Abuja around 3:00 PM Nigerian time.
A statement by presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, said the president has also approved the appointment of Umaru Danbatta as the new executive vice chairman and chief executive of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
According to sources, who pledged to be anonymous, President Buhari met with Kachikwu on August 3, to complete talks on his vision for the state owned corporation, which has been tangled in accusation of corruption and dubious accounting practices.
The nomination reportedly is one of the many to come in Buhari’s bid to rid the NNPC of corruption.
It should be noted that Nigeria makes billions of dollars from crude oil, which funds about 85 % of the federal budget, but the president said that an estimated 250,000 barrels of crude is stolen daily by thieves and sold abroad.
Dr. Emmanuel Kachikwu comes from Onicha-Ugbo in Delta state was the executive vice chairman and gneral counsel of Exxon Mobil (Africa).
He is a first class graduate of law from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and the Nigerian law school.
He is also in the possession of Masters and Doctorate Degrees (Law) Harvard law school.
His career started with the Nigerian/American Merchant Bank, he worked withTexaco Nigeria Limited, then left and joined Exxon-Mobil before his appointment.
Dr. Kachikwu is a very well respected technocrat with an faultless record. He has never hold a political position.
His candidacy is being endorsed by the West and influential patrons who are frustrated by the corruption in the petroleum sector.
It would be recalled that President Buhari sacked NNPC board of directors a month ago. He also revealed his intention to break up the commission.
There had been reports that President Buhari is set to become Nigerian next minister of petroleum resources as he rather appoint himself than trust anyone else with the main source of Nigeria’s revenue.
