FG To Install Surveillance Cameras In Nigeria Prisons

In order to guard against cases of jail break in prisons across the country, the federal ministry of interior on Thursday, August 13, said it will soon install surveillance cameras in all prisons, Vanguard reports.
Alhaji Abubakar Magaji, the permanent secretary of the ministry said this after a briefing with President Muhammadu Buhari.
He explained that the cameras would help to monitor suspicious activities and unusual movement of prisoners within the premises of prisons across the country.
He added that shortage of personnel in the prisons was affecting the service and emphasized the need to employ more workers.
He also briefed the president on the problem the ministry was facing in managing the about 1500 illegal routes that entered the country. These illegal entries were being used by smugglers and illegal immigrants.
He however said the president promised to look into the problems facing the ministry.
Meanwhile, two prisoners who escaped from an Ekiti prison during a jail break in 2014 are currently cooling their heels in a police net after they were arrested by operatives of the police force.
