Herbalists Deny Being Responsible For Ritual Killings

The Association of African Traditional Religion has come out to correct the general perception that they are responsible for ritual killings, The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
Mr Ifasegun Elegushi, the president of the association has said the view that their members were ritual killers was false. He described people who commit ritual killings as ungodly.
“We are not responsible for ritual killings, we are traditionalists,” he said
He said that they were only interested in propagating the African religion and culture.
Mr Lekan Ajirotutu, the public relations officer of the association said that irrespective of religious beliefs, anyone could still be a herbalist.
“Herbalists could be anybody, irrespective of religious belief,” he said
He added that traditional religion preceded other religions practiced in Nigeria.
“The ATR is the way of life of our predecessors, before the advent of the two other religions.
“Therefore, no religion should be condemned at the expense of the other. Everybody should be allowed to practise his or her own religious beliefs in a free atmosphere,”
Mrs Folusho Adeogun-Oga, the vice president of the association urged the believers of Islam, Christianity and Traditional religion to practice their faith in unity instead of condemning each other.
Meanwhile, the Ogun state police command has declared war on ritualists and have ordered that they be shot on sight.
