Policemen attached to the Alakuko police station have arrested a commercial bus driver identified simply as Tunde for alleged Manslaughter.
It was gathered that the suspect allegedly drove roughly and hit the bike rider identified as Musa along a busy road in Alakuko area of Lagos State, which led to the bike man sustaining injuries and later caused his death.
A police source stated that the driver fled after hitting the bike-man but he was later apprehended and handed over to the police by a group of commercial bus riders popularly called Okada after they trailed him for days.
The source said: “The okada rider and the bus driver were heading at opposite directions when the bus hit the okada and caused him to crash. The bus driver did not stop despite the shouts from residents and other motorists that he had hit somebody.
“Sympathizers however came to the rescue of the victim and they rushed him to the hospital. Other ‘Okada-riders’ trailed the bus driver but he abandoned his vehicle and went into hiding.”
According to the police source, the suspect blamed the deceased for the accident.
He said: “It was the okada man that drove roughly and hit himself against my vehicle from the rear. He (okada rider) was trying to navigate his way from a tight and busy angle of the road but he could not control the bike and he fell and hit his head against my bus. I fled because I did not want the angry mob to lynch me”.
The matter is under investigation.
