Omgdailyupdate.blogspot.com has been told exclusively by a top source at the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) secretariat that the Super Eagles could play a top international friendly match in September.
However, the source, who asked to be anonymous, said that the outcome of their encounter with Tanzania will determine if they go ahead with the friendly or not. The reason cited was that the head coach of the Super Eagles, Sunday Oliseh, will be in charge of his first game in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.
The source said: “Nigerians are waiting for us to play a friendly match, and you know there is no much time and the coach is not in the country, he is out there scouting for players that he think is worthy of a call-up to the team.
“All plan have been set to play a friendly match the moment we play the qualifier in Tanzania before the players travel back to their various clubs, we are looking at a South American country and, maybe an African country but we are yet to conclude,” the source said.
There had been earlier speculation that the Eagles will play a friendly match in August but the source denied it and said they cannot afford it because of the time frame and logistics, as they can only play if it is on the FIFA calendar or else clubs will not release their players.
However, August 30 is the camp opening date for foreign based professionals and they are to resume in Abuja and train together before moving out to Dar Es Salaam.
Nigeria will be playing Tanzania on the sixth of September in the first leg at the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifier.
