In response to threats by the two key labour unions (NUPENG and PENGASSAN) to stop the ongoing restructuring of the corporation, the NNPC boss emphasised his mission is to make NNPC more efficient and not to embark on a mass retrenchment of the workforce.
He explained that President Muhammadu Buhari mandated him to turn around the entire commercial process and procedure in order to impact on the growth trajectory and operations of the corporation.
Kachikwu explained further that his decision to reduce top management cadre of the NNPC from eight to four is to sharpen the business aspiration of the corporation.
He said the next stage of the reforms will entail training and retraining of members of staff to align with the new vision.
According to him, NNPC plans to review production sharing contracts, joint venture agreements and all other contracts between the NNPC and its various partners to reflect current day realities in the global oil and gas industry.
