Okagbare Vows To Bounce Back In 200M

Nigeria’s sprint queen Blessing Okagbare failed to rise to the occasion on the big stage yet again as she finished last in the 100m final at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing yesterday, August 24.
However, the reigning African 100m queen has apologised to Nigerians, especially the millions of her fans all over the world, for letting them down in Beijing.
Okagbare, one of the pre-race favourites and the third fastest woman in the world coming to the championships, surprisingly came in last (8th) in 11.02 seconds, her worst performance in her third straight 100m final.
She has however promised to bounce back in the 200m which starts tomorrow.

Okagbare wrote on her Facebook wall: “You work hard, train hard, put your best foot forward and go out there to proudly represent your country.
“Sometimes it all comes together for you, and on other days like today (Monday August 24, 2015), it doesn’t.”
She bemoaned her slow start and promised her fans that she will make up for the poor show in the 200m, in which she won bronze two years ago in Moscow, Russia.
“I feel sad that I let you down.
“I will regroup and get ready for the 200m which starts on Wednesday. I thank you all for standing by me,” she added.
The defending champion, Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and the fast-rising Dutch girl Dafne Schippers, finished first and second respectively to win the gold and silver medal.
In the men final, the world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, won the 100m race at the World Athletics Championship.
