This new directive has caused the EFCC and Independent Corrupt Practices And Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to start analysing petitions written against ministries, agencies and departments with a view to getting the amount stolen and those responsible for it.
A source close to one of the anti-graft agencies said the management of the anti-graft agencies had started analysis of the petitions it received from various government agencies.
It was learnt that the EFCC boss, Ibrahim Larmorde has called for all the petitions and files against the different government bodies in preparedness for an investigation in line with Buhari’s directive.
It was further reported that the files were allocated to various units of the commission to commence the process of invitation and interrogation, while the ICPC is said to be secretly investigating civil servants that are believed to have their hands soiled.
The source said: “I think what is happening is not sudden; the President gave an instruction to the EFCC and the ICPC to ensure that they submit how much has been stolen in the various sectors of the economy.
“Since then, the Chairman of the EFCC called for all the files of the various agencies; they are quite many and they were being sifted.”
