Aisha Buhari, the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, has expressed her concern at the disappearing number of female lawmakers in the National Assembly.
Vanguard reports that she voiced this observation during a reception organised by the committee of friends in honour of Rotimi Amaechi, the former governor of Rivers state on Sunday, August 2.
She said that men must support women to occupy key positions in the country.
“Supporting women to contest elective positions has become imperative as the number of female legislators have declined because some of them lost their seats during the last general elections.
“As the number of female legislature decline, we wish the men in Nigeria will support the women to attain the 35 per cent affirmative action in 2019,’’
She gave the example of Chief Bola Tinubu who supported his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, to win a senatorial seat in Lagos. She urged other politicians to support their wives in elective positions.
Aisha also applauded the effort of Rotimi Amaechi in making the country achieve the change that it wanted. She said he deserved to be celebrated for his effort.
Yemi Osinbajo who was also at the ceremony commended Amaechi
“One thing I personally admire about him is his forthrightness; his ability to say it like it is, and we have never been in doubt about where he stands on any issue at all. “He has the capacity for the big ideas. Any state governor that will build a railway is a man of big ideas,’
Meanwhile, AIsha gave money to the victims of a recent Boko Haram attack in Gombe in a show of solidarity and a humanitarian gesture.
