Boko Haram: Sen. Barau Urges FG Not To Relent In Fight Against Insurgency

Mr Barau Jubrin (APC Kano North) on Sunday has urged the federal government not to relent in the combat against terrorism until they are defeated in Nigeria especially in the North East.
Following the World Bank’s $2.1 billion to rebuild the areas as well as Tuesday’s resolution by the Senate for the rehabilitation of the region, Mr Jibrin disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Abuja.
He also advocated the immediate rehabilitation of areas in the North East that was destroyed by the Boko Haram insurgents.
He added that because of hunger, some of those who had been liberated still find their ways back to the areas still occupied by the insurgents in search of food.
Although he advised that there should be a balance between rehabilitation and the combat against insurgency so there is no distraction between the two.
Mr Barau said,”the major issue is to defeat the Boko Haram get them out of that area before you start talking about rehabilitation, but at the same time, don’t forget that a great portion of this area has been liberated.
“Since we have areas that have been liberated, there is a need to begin rehabilitation immediately.
“Relief has not been sent to these people, they have not been well catered for”, he said.
He said that the fear of a possible destruction of rehabilitated areas was not enough to leave the residents in hunger and poverty.
He continued, “you might say, let us wait until they are defeated before we begin to talk about rehabilitation, but if you do that, we may get it wrong.
“We need to look at a balance in our approach to find a way to send relief to the liberated without jeopardizing the war effort of making the mistake of bringing rehabilitation that may end up being destroyed by this sect”,said Mr Jibrin.
He also expressed optimism that the passage of a vote of confidence on the leadership of the senate will pave the way for serious legislative business to commence.
