Reps To Get New Salary And Allowances Package In September

The Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Elias Mbam on Tuesday, August 25,  said a new salary and allowance package for Nigeria’s senators and house of representative members will be made available by September.

Mba speaking at the presidential villa said: “We are currently reviewing the subsisting remuneration packages and it is going to reflect the socio-economic realities of today. We expect that before the end of next month, it will be ready. But it will go through a process, it is not something that you will just say yes or no.”
He said that the review which will cover for the lawmakers, the judiciary, State Legislature and Local Government executives will made ready by the commission next month.
Mbam added that the review of the packages will take into total consideration the currently global and national economic situation.
“These are some the issues that made it necessarily to review it. It did not start with this administration, we started the review as far back as last year. It is not because of the present administration that we commenced it,” he said
The commission’s chairman also said the lawmakers would not have a choice than to accept the final reviewed package by his commission.
He said: “They do not have a choice; we are guided by the constitution and we are going to be guided by such laws that are provided for in the constitution and the oath they swore to obey the laws of the country.”
The bogus allowances of the lawmakers have for some months been under contention following outrage by Nigerians over their earning.
The recent being an outrage on social media when it was revealed that each lawmaker is entitled to recive N27.5 million Naira as wardrobe allowance.
In a related development, members of the senate and house of representatives have received N93million as allowance for the 6 weeks recess they had from Thursday, August 13.
