Two T.V Presenters Shot Dead In Virginia On Live Television

Alison Parker, 24, and Adam Ward, 27, both of the WDBJ7 were killed at the Bridgewater Plaza near Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia on the morning of Wednesday, August 26.

The tragic event took place while they were shooting a live segment at around 6.45am.
A video footage shows the moment a gunman opened fire – which sent the crew screaming and ducking for cover.

The camera was reported to have dropped and broadcast was taken back to the studio where the presenter looked stunned.
Immediately afterwards, the TV station tweeted.

The shooter was reported to be at large, and a manhunt was underway, pictures of the gunman as caught on camera. WDBJ General Manager Jeff Marks said the shooter is believed to have fired six or seven times.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives participated in the manhunt, while the ATF and FBI are participating in the investigation.
There are speculations that the shooter was a former employee of the T.V station, named Vester L. Flanagan.
According to a former WDBJ employee, Flanagan was a reporter for about a year using the on-air name Bryce Williams, he was fired from the station, though the reason was not made public, the ex-employee said.
A law enforcement source who briefed on the search said: “It is believed that Flanagan is still in the Virginia area.”
However, authorities say they are looking for “former WDBJ employee Vester L. Flanagan, who is driving a 2009 gray Ford Mustang.”
A guest who was being interviewed was shot in the back and she is reported to be receiving treatment in the hospital.
Barb Nocera, the chamber’s special projects manager said: “The woman being intervied, Vicki Gardner, executive director of the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce, was shot in the back and is in surgery.”
Ryan Edwards, a spokesman for the Bedford County Public Schools said the schools have been put on lock-down until further notice.
