Woman Kills Fiance Over Sex In Lagos

A 24-year-old woman Blessing Edet has been arrested for allegedly stabbing her fiancé, Edet Ebong, 33, to death with a kitchen knife over his demands for sex.
Blessing, who resides at Ogombo village in the Lekki area of Lagos state, had been dating Ebong for the past 18 months and they were on the verge of finalising their marital plans, New Telegraph reports.
The suspect, Blessing Edet.
Recounting what happened, the suspect said that on August 18, Ebong, who worked for Akwa Ibom State Transport Company (AKTC), had come in drunk and asked for Indomie noodles, which she prepared for him. After eating, he asked about the engagement ring he had given to her. She then told him it was on the table.
Later, when they lay down to sleep, he started making advances for sex and she told him she was tired after a hectic day. He got really angry and started beating her.
He broke the standing mirror in the room and injured me above my left eye with the broken glass. In defence, I ran to pick up the kitchen knife I had used while preparing ‘Indomie’ noodles for him. I mistakenly stabbed him in the stomach.
After stabbing him, the fight continued. He went under the bed, brought out a cutlass and said he was going to kill me. It was at this point that my younger brother who had been trying to stop us, but to no avail, rushed out to call neighbours.
“My landlord heard the shout and rushed into our room. He saw Edet bleeding while I was holding a knife. He alerted the police and Edet was rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately he died two days after,” she said.
Blessing, who claimed to be an orphan, explained that she had asked him to move in with her six months back when he had trouble with his accommodation.
Sincerely, I stabbed him unintentionally. Even while he was in the hospital, I prayed he would survive. I don’t know what came over him that day. We had good plans for the future. He was not just a lover but also a brother,” she added.
Giving account of what happened, a resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the couple started fighting around 12am and 1am over noodles which her boyfriend asked her to prepare.
The resident said: “She prepared it without adding sardine which he had requested. The argument led to a fight. Blessing later stabbed Obong. She shouted ‘I will stab you with knife’. And that was what she did. She ripped open the man’s stomach.”
Another resident claimed that Blessing was a prostitut, who rented a room in the area and started bearing Amaka, saying: “She has no other work than to be sleeping with men and clubbing.”
When contacted, the state police public relations officer, DSP Patricia Amadin, said she was still trying to access the full details of the incident.
A source, however, disclosed that the case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba for further investigation.
