Despite the criticism that have greeted the appointments made so far by President Muhammadu Buhari by some South-West leaders, a leader from the zone has defended the president’s action.

Olorunfunmi Basorun, who was the first secretary to the Lagos state government made this remark on Tuesday, Septmber 8, saying Buhari has been fair to the zone in term of appointments, The Punch reports.
He lauded the president for appointing a Yoruba man, Babatunde Fowler, as the chairman of Federal Inland Revenue Service saying that the chuck of the appointments have been given to the Yorubas.
The former scribe stated that notwithstanding tribal sentiment, President Buhari has been very good to Yoruba sons as he even  led the campaign for the emergence of the former minister of agriculture, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, as the President of the African Development Bank.
Basorun said: “Buhari has not marginalised the Yoruba. He has been very good to us. Even while he was the President-elect, he started by supporting Adesina to be the President of the AfDB. He then appointed Fowler to head the FIRS. Someone who heads the organisation that will make money for the government is very important. It is not the number of appointments that matters.
“In any case, he has just started and he is going to make well over 1,000 appointments. So, there is no marginalisation. He is going to appoint 36 ministers which will be spread across the 36 states. It is stated in the constitution. After that, several boards will be constituted and there will be appointments into those boards.”
Meanwhile, a chieftain of Pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere, Senator Femi Okunrounmu, in a recent interview, said that President Buhari used Bola Ahmed Tinubu to get into power.
He noted that Tinubu had thought that by helping the president to power, he will become the national ‘kingmaker’ of Nigeria.
