These are troubled times for members of the Movement of the Actualisation of Sovereign States of Biafra (MASSOB), as Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, has ordered his men to clampdown on the group or any other group inciting violence in the country.
In a statement issued on his behalf by the police headquarters public relations officer, Olabisi Kolawale, in Abuja today, Arase empowered his men to bring those causing social disorder across Nigeria to book.
The statement specifically mentioned that the IGP’s directive was because of the recent activities of members of MASSOB and their sister organisation, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the South-east and some parts of the South-south region.
According to Vanguard, the statement revealed that the following arrests had been made ; Anambra four, Imo six, Delta11, and Abia one.
Also, the statement warned that all those so arrested for inciting violence, irrespective of their class or status in the society would be charged to court.
Recall that police officers in Owerri, Imo state arrested about 50 members of MASSOB over the weekend at the house of their leader, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike.
While members IPOB numbering about a hundred were arrested on Sunday, September 6 by police operatives in Asaba, the Delta state capital.
In a related development, a pro-Biafran rally resulted in tragedy in Onisha when policemen stormed the gathering and killed 9 members of the group.
