NFF Reveals AFCON 2017 Qualification Targets

NFF President Amaju Pinnick
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has set a target of 13 points for Sunday Oliseh in the qualifiers for AFCON 2017 in Gabon.

A top official in the NFF told africanFootball.com that the general consensus on the NFF board is that Nigeria might not be able to topple Egypt as Group G leaders but a target of 13 points will suffice to qualify as best losers.
The official said: “This will qualify us for the AFCON, notwithstanding Egypt’s other results in the qualifiers.”
The best losers in AFCON qualifiers qualify with at least 12 points but the NFF will take nothing for granted.
“And that is not taking into consideration the fact that we cannot beat Egypt in Cairo and Tanzania will not give Egypt a hard time at home as they did for us this month.”
The unnamed official revealed that qualification by any means for AFCON 2017 was was the minimum expectation. To achieve the 13-point aim, Nigeria must win next year’s qualifiers against Egypt (home and away), Chad (away) and Tanzania (home).
Therefore the outstanding home matches against Egypt and Tanzania are must-win, so too the away qualifier in Chad.
Egypt  lead Group G with six points from two matches and a +7 goals difference while the Super Eagles lie in second place with  four points from two matches.
