Niger Republic’s national football team coach, Francois Zahoui, has hailed the Super Eagles’ win over his team while expressing his appreciation with the manner in which Sunday Oliseh has handled the Nigerian team.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) through an interpreter, the former Ivory Coast trainer also said the experience of playing Nigeria means his team learnt a lot from the game.
Zahoui was speaking to reporters just after his team lost 2-0 to Nigeria at the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium, Port Harcourt, on Tuesday.
NAN quotes him as saying: “We came here to play, learn and make progress. We lost but at the same time gained a lot from the game.”
The captain of the Nigerien team, Souleymane Sakou, told reporters: “It was a very big experience playing against Nigeria. We played and lost, but we learnt and hope to improve from here.”
The Super Eagles’ captain, Ahmed Musa, scored the first goal in the 16th minute through a penalty while substitute Simon Moses scored the second goal in the 84th minute.
Meanwhile, Zahoui’s Nigerian counter-part Sunday Oliseh said that his team still has a lot to do, saying Nigeria needs to re-freshen the team with younger players.
Oliseh also said that the likes of Mikel Obi, Vincent Enyema and others are still welcome in his team.
