Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, has revealed that his team still has a lot to do, saying Nigeria needs to re-freshen the team with younger players.
Speaking shortly after the match against Niger in Port Harcourt, the former mid-fielder explained that the likes of Mikel Obi, Vincent Enyema and others are still welcomed in his team.
He said: “We need to re-freshen this team with young players. It doesn’t mean Enyeama, Mikel, Moses and the rest wont play; the doors are still open for them. They should just make sure they play for their clubs, and they would be invited.”
Oliseh however praised coach François Zahoui of Niger. “First of all, I have to congratulate the Nigerien team. They have a very good team. And this shows they have done a lot of work.”
“We didn’t just want to play the Nigeriens, we know Nigerians love good football and we wanted to play for them and ourselves too and we did just that.”
Meanwhile, Zahoui noted that although his team lost, they have taken learnt a lot from the match. He said: “I am happy to play Oliseh. We lost but we have taken positives from the game.”
Also speaking at the post-match conference was the captain of the Nigerian side, Ahmed Musa. “I am so happy with today’s victory and we needed to celebrate with the coach, that was why I ran to him immediately I scored.”
Nigeria defeated Niger 2 – 0 in the international friendly.
