Fulani herdsmen kill 15 in Taraba



The Taraba State Commissioner of Police, Shaba Alkali, said on Tuesday that suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked two villages in Gashaka Local Government Area of the sate on Sunday and killed 15 people.

Though residents of Dori and Mesuma, the attacked villages, told Premium Times that over 40 people were killed and several houses razed, the police chief said only 15 people were killed in the attacks.

Quoting Alkali Premium Times reported that the herdsmen launched the attacks on the two villages on Sunday morning.

“A group of people numbering about 20, suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, invaded and attacked Dori and Mesuma villages via Garbabi ward, Gashaka LGA, and burnt some thatch houses forcing the villagers to flee into the villages of Mayo-Selbe and Sabon Gida for safety,” Alkali told journalists

“Eight people were killed in Dori village while seven were also killed in Mesuma,” he added.

The CP said that he immediately deployed operatives in the communities as soon as he got the report of the attacks.

He said two suspects were arrested.

The police commissioner according to Premium Times, had paraded a 52-year-old man, Ardo Ayuba Iliyasu, who was described as the mastermind of the Dori and Mesuma attacks.

The online medium stated that when interviewed by journalists, the suspect denied involvement in the killings.
