Arsenal to meet Napoli over Higuain as they offer £42m plus Giroud

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has asked to meet with Napoli after launching a bid for Gonzalo Higuain, according to reports.

RaiSport journalist Ciro Venerato has been explaining that Arsenal and the player are keen to get the deal done.

Higuain has been linked with a move to The Emirates for years but this could be the summer it finally happens.

Arsenal are said to have offered £42.2m plus Olivier Giroud to the Serie A side, but they are willing to go as high as £50m without the Frenchman.

Higuain is interested in the £6.8m-a-year wages but Giroud's camp appear less convinced with the swap.

Speaking on Radio CRC, Venerato said: "It comes to €50m (£42.2m) plus Giroud, but I know that the English club is ready to arrive at €60m (£50.6m).

"The Italians have already done a survey with the entourage of Giroud, but I'm not entirely convinced the attacker wants to move.

"Anyway Wenger has asked to get a meeting in London with [Napoli chairman] Aurelio De Laurentiis.

"But we do not know if the president will agree to sit down at the table.

"The Gunners are ready to offer a contract of €8m (£6.8m) plus bonuses for four seasons."
