The British Government has expressed the need for Lagos State Government to partner with her on verification of documents presented by applicants for issuance of British Passports.
The measure becomes necessary because of recent challenges facing the commission while verifying documents such as birth certificate, school certificate, parents’ background, among others as presented by applicants in the state which invariably cause unnecessary delay in the issuance of passports.
Mr. John Deanie, Head of Passport Office and Counter Fraud, British High Commission, Lagos, stated this yesterday, during a meeting with the state Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Mr. Muslim Folami.
Folami, while receiving the team, however, gave assurance of the present administration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to support and collaborate with the commission in its drive to ensure speedy issuance of British passports to applicants. “In the short term, we will create leverage, by setting up a team from your end, then call stakeholders’ forum that will involve all local government officials who will be able to pass across the message and in turn disseminate same to others,” the commissioner said.
