3 Arrested in Kano with 56.6kg of Methamphetamine
The Kano state Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested three Nigerian youths with 56.6kg of methamphetamine carefully concealed in cartons for onward movement to Malaysia via Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA).
Addressing journalists in his office on Friday, the state NDLEA commander, Ham
za Umar gave the names of the suspects as Joseph Obiajulu Nwaigbo, Jude Nwaigbo and Thankgod Anyika.
According to him, just recently, NDLEA discovered about seven clandestine laboratories where the dangerous drugs are produced in Lagos and the Eastern parts of the country.
He said unpatriotic Nigerians connive with foreign nationals to run the racket.
“It is pertinent to note that where this substance van not leave this country, it would be consumed here. We thank God they were apprehended and currently under investigations including their sources and sponsors.”
Umar, however, seized the occasion to review activities of the Command since January this year in terms of arrest, seizures, prosecution, counseling and rehabilitation of youths whose lives and future are being destroyed for their engagement in consumption of hard and illicit drugs.
Within the period under review, he said the Command arrested 761 suspects, 2,822.913kg of cannabis, 34,971.418kg of psychotropic substances, 118.1grammes of cocaine, 7 grammes of heroine,41.8kg of metamphetamine, 24.8kg of ephedrine.
More so, the Command prosecuted 299 males suspects and three female suspects, while 662 drug addicts were counseled and rehabilitated.
Mr. Umar also appreciated the support of Kano state Governor, Dr. Abdullah Umar Ganduje, sister security agencies and the public just as he promised to continue to clampdown on drug barons, couriers and abusers in the state.
