Lukaku Scores His First Goal for Manchester United as Red Devils Win in USA (Photos)

 

 

Belgium international, Romelu Lukaku, has admitted that he was delighted to get off the mark for Manchester United after scoring his first goal of pre-season in a friendly win over Real Salt Lake.

 

Lukaku, who arrived this summer from Everton and made his debut in United’s 5-2 win over LA Galaxy last week, missed a couple of chances to score.

 

However, he was not to be denied on Monday, as he latched onto Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s pass and rounded the goalkeeper before steadying himself to bury the chance. His goal made it 2-1, after Mkhitaryan had cancelled out Luis Silva’s opener.

 

Jose Mourinho’s men finished the match with 10 men, after substitute Antonio Valencia was sent off with 22 minutes left at the Rio Tinto Stadium.

The £75million summer signing, Lukaku who netted 26 times in all competitions for Everton last season prompting big interest in his signature this summer, says he’s settling in well with his new club and that he expects the goals and the victories to keep on coming.

‘Obviously, I’m here to score goals and be a focal point for the team,’ Lukaku told MUTV.

‘At Manchester United, we play to win. That’s my first mentality when I get onto the pitch. Then everything else comes with it.

‘I feel really well. Pre-season has been going really well for us. We’ve been working really well to prepare for the season ahead. The competition is there. Everyone is working hard to have a place in the team.

‘I’m delighted with another win for the team. We did well and we need to keep improving because now we are playing better opponents and we need to improve.

 

‘This is what the manager wants, to play attractive football. Hopefully we will be prepared and ready to do the job.

‘I know a lot of the lads, a lot of them are neighbours so I didn’t take time to settle in. I have been waiting for this opportunity, now I am here and it is time to work hard.’

 

Lukaku, 24, will be seen as a key signing for a United side who struggled to break teams down last season, with the club only finishing 6th in the Premier League and drawing 15 games in total.

 

Jose Mourinho’s side also had the worst attacking record in the top seven, and lost their top scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic when his contract expired at the end of June.
