PDP Supports Buhari’s Probe Of Corrupt Politicians, Urges Government Not To Be Selective

The Peoples Democratic Party supported the planned move by the All Progressives Congress to prosecute corrupt officials.
It should be noted that during his four-day visit to the United States President Muhammadu Buhari several times reiterated his commitment to probe the officials involved in public funds embezzlement. Presidential spokesman Femi Adesina added that only the government of the immediate past president would be tried.
“If you recall, that was already settled before he got inaugurated as president. He has said he will not waste time digging into the far past. The far past will includes Obasanjo and others. But the president has said he will not waste time to go that far.”
Speaking on July 23, Thursday, in Lokoja, PDP national publicity secretary Olisa Metuh decried corruption saying that their party was in support of any move to check the funds stealing in Nigeria, The Punch reports.
“Corruption is a crime against the people, the nation and our Constitution.”
Metuh claimed that as long at the PDP members were clean, they had noting to fear in the launched anti-corruption war. He further noted that the PDP would not cover the guilty members of their party.
Metuh, however, warned the incumbent government against witch-hunt and that due process and the rule of law must be adhered strictly in the probes.
“Even if the PDP members are being probed, we support the probes because people are being held to account for their stewardships in office but we don’t want political lynching.”
According to Premium Times Metuh added:

“We expect the President Muhammadu Buhari’s government not to embark on selective probing of public office holders found wanting before or during his government.”
