Alhaji Mohammed Kari has been appointed as the commissioner for Insurance and Chief Executive of the National Insurance Commission ((NAICOM) by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Kari’s appointment takes effect from Friday, July 31, 2015.
His appointment was conveyed in a letter signed by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Danladi Kifasi, Business Day reports.
Kari would be taking over from Fola Daniel whose second and final tenure as commissioner ends today.
Until his new appointment, he was the deputy commissioner (technical) of the commission. He was appointed deputy in 2014 by the immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan.
The newly appointed commissioner is an insurance graduate (Diploma in Insurance, 1979) of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and an associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute, London, from Caledonian University, Glasgow, U.K (1984).
He was until 2012, the Managing Director/CEO of UnityKapital Assurance Plc.
He was a member of the Nigerian Vision 2010, a member of the 20:2020 Committee and a recipient of the much-coveted African Insurance Organisation’s gold medal for excellence.
President Buhari has also renewed the appointment of Mr. Joshua Okpo as the Rector of the Maritime Academy, Oron for a second and final term of four years.
