Twin Suicide Bomb Attacks Kill 13 In Central Market

At least 13 people have been killed and 32 others injured in two suicide bomb attacks in Cameroon’s northern city, Maroua on Wednesday July 22.
A local source said the bombers were two young girls who had disguised themselves as beggars.
The first explosion hit the city’s central market, while the second was detonated in a densely populated neighborhood, a military source told Reuters.
A teacher simply identified as Celestin, said: “People were running in all directions,” adding that he had just arrived at the city’s central market when the first bomb went off.

A statement from the office of President Paul Biya said 13 people were killed in the attack.
Wednesday’s attack happened near to the border with Nigeria’s Borno state, where the Boko Haram militants are most active.
Though no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, Boko Haram has stepped up attacks on the countries bordering its northeast Nigerian stronghold.
The town of Maroua is used by the Cameroonian army as the headquarters for its operations against the dreaded sect and part of a multinational force battling the militants in neighbouring parts of Nigeria.
Last year, Boko Haram took control of a large area of north-eastern Nigeria and declared a caliphate in some of the towns.
Nigeria’s military, backed by troops from neighbouring countries, including Cameroon, Chad and Niger recaptured most of the territory, but since President Muhammudu Buhari took office in May, there has been an upsurge in suicide attacks.
Just yesterday,  multiple bomb blast rocked Gombe, the capital of Gombe state. The explosions, supposed to be from Improvised Explosive Devices worn by suicide bombers, happened at about 7.pm.
