Find Out Who Professor Jega Says He Has Forgiven

Professor Attahiru Jega, the former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that he has accepted the apology of Elder Godsday Orubebe over the latter’s outburst during the collation of the presidential result during the last election.
The former Niger Delta minister had angrily interrupted the collation and had caused a scene when he lashed out at Jega. He accused the fINEC boss of bias. Orubebe later issued an apology for his behaviour.
Daily Trust reports that Jega said he had since put Orubeb’s outburst behind him. He said he has forgiven Orubebe and Nigerians should move on from the incident.
“I think the Orubebe’s incident is behind us, and we should just move on and not be held back by it. I was made to understand that a day or two after the incident, Mr. Orubebe made a public apology through the news media and I think that is sufficient enough.
“I think the challenges for us include ensuring that statesmen act as they should. And under all circumstances, we must control our emotions and resist the temptation of making wild allegations which can disrupt a process as important as the election. But I think we all learnt something from the elections,”
He urged the commission to continue to improve on voters’ register and said he was glad to be back in the classroom.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party has showered accolades on Jega, for bringing confidence to Nigeria’s electoral system.
