Can we meet you?
My name is Odeh Ajiri Princewill and I hail from Delta state. I am the first of five children.
How did you come about Comedy?
The journey was divine, is divine in the sense that comedy is not where I should have ended but somehow it had a way of choosing me. I tell people I didn’t choose comedy but comedy choose me. I came to Lagos in 2005 after my secondary school education and I ended up as a bus conductor because I had nowhere to stay. After I watched AY at the House of God church, I decided to do whatever it takes to meet him. in 2008, I met AY during a comedy contest which was held in seven states but fortunately for me, I won Lagos state. So, that gave me an opportunity to perform at the Night of A Thousand Laugh amongst many others.
What would you count as the challenges?
There are many challenging and wicked times in comedy. However, comedy makes you dress well because if you don’t know client would want you to anchor their event and being an upcoming comedian, it is hard for you to feed not to talk about clothing yourself. So, for me the basic challenge is finance but I would say God has been good to me.
How financially rewarding has it been for you?
Comedy is one of the most profiting forms of business one can get into. I prefer comedy to music and acting. Normally I wanted to be a footballer or a medical doctor. I think comedy gives you the opportunity to start making money from the first day you get involved. They don’t need you to be popular, once you can prove to your client that you are funny and you can handle their events maturely they don’t care if you have a name or not. Comedy is very rewarding because from the beginning to the end you are making money.
How much was your first fee being a comedian?
My first fee was a spoiling one because I was still a bus conductor but when I got paid, I stopped being a bus conductor. As a bus conductor, you earn N1, 500 daily until one day one of my colleague asked if I wanted to go into comedy and I said yes. There was an event in Katsina February 14th 2009, where I was paid N20, 000. After that I have done some ridicule event where I have been paid N750 and N910 at a church event.
How much are you worth now?
I really cannot disclose how much I earn now being a comedian because I work round the clock, and the prices vary due to the kind of relationship I have with my client. I have done free shows for companies but I would say, my minimum fee is N100, 000 but I get paid for as much as one million.
Aside from comedy, what else are you in to?
For now comedy is all I do. Every other thing aside from comedy I catch fun with it because I love entrepreneurship and I really love to be a CEO. When I started making money from comedy I start investing them in things that will make me CEO. I have an event organizing company. But for now comedy pays my bills and every other thing collects money from it.
What other business would you like to delve into?
The first thing was I bought a bus because I love transportation. Transportation has money. I want it to grow to having branding buses from Abuja to Lagos and so on. We get to a level when will get an airline and call it finash airline.
Who do you look up to in the industry?
Gordon covers two edges because he shows that Warri boy and educated personality. Gordon has a way of commanding respect and listen to him. So Gordon for me is number one. Number two is Seyi law because he is humble, shows the trait of a leader and he is hilariously funny.
Are you in any relationship at the moment?
For now I have not seen what I want in a woman, so I’m still searching.
