The Ekiti state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to stop covering up for former governor of the state, Kayode Fayemi.
The party disclosed that a lot of petitions and pieces of evidence had been submitted to the ICPC, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and other anti-graft agencies to assist them unravel the secret deals of the former governor while in office.
In a statement signed by the state publicity secretary, Jackson Adebayo, in Ado Ekiti on Friday September 4, the party said, it was aware of the several petitions against the ex-governor.
“We are waiting for the ICPC to explain to the people of Nigeria, why it has decided to cover up the corruption allegations against the former governor of Ekiti, after many petitions from groups and individuals in and outside the state were submitted to it, as well as the reports of other agencies, which had at one time or the other, indicted him for mismanaging the finances of our dear state.
“As a party, we have raised this alarm before, to forestall this high -wired conspiracy and cover-up, but the anti-corruption body refused to come out to deny or explain.
“Likewise, the presidency is yet to say anything contrary to the allegations; hence, our belief that the non-inclusion of Fayemi on the list of the individuals being probed by the ICPC, is grossly deficient and a deliberate attempt to trample on justice,” the statement reads in part.
