Chief Timipre Sylva
As the heat generated by the impending Bayelsa supplementary election gets hotter, the APC candidate has given his opinion of the influence Nigeria's former lady's wields in the election's outcome.
Ahead of Saturday’s supplementary election in Bayelsa State, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Timipre Sylva, has told wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Dame Patience, that he does not need her support to win.
According to Daily Independent, Sylva made the assertion at a world press conference in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, yesterday. He said: “As for the former first lady, I make bold to say that I do not need her support as long as the people are behind us.”
Sylva’s press conference came barely three days after a similar one by Governor Seriake Dickson.
The former governor described as untrue, some reports that he had received the support of the former first lady ahead of the poll. He also denied meeting with any ex-militant leader on the prompting of Mrs. Jonathan.

He said: “Let me use this opportunity to clarify some reports that I am being backed by the former first lady. That cannot be true even though I don’t want to go into details of what had happened in the past.”
It will be recalled that Sylva was swept out of office as he was stopped from running for another term in 2012 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a result of his friction with the former first family.
