A Newcastle United superfan, Cliffy Ahmed, suffered a heart attack after watching his beloved side grab a last-minute equaliser against Manchester United.

Ahmed, from South Shields, was a lifelong Magpies supporter and followed the club home and away for decades. He was a regular face on the St James’ Park terraces and in the pubs around the ground on a matchday.

It is thought he suffered a cardiac arrest after Newcastle’s 3-3 draw with Manchester United on Tuesday. He allegedly began to foam at the mouth and was rushed to get medical attention. He later died in hospital.

Newcastle United’s official Twitter account posted on Sunday: “Our condolences to the family and friends of loyal and well-known Newcastle United fan Cliffy Ahmed, who has sadly passed away. #NUFC.”
